As usual, we get a great showing of school nurses at our first meeting. Lots of great information shared by our County President, Gail Hall. For the highlight of the meeting, our very own Eileen Gavin, MSN, FNP-BC, NCSN, MCSNA/NJSSNA Legislative Chairperson provided a jam-packed presentation about the legislative happenings in New Jersey and nationally that relate to our specialty and nursing, in general. | |
Eileen shared a document (click here) listing legislation that has currently passed and informed us about pending legislation. There are so many bills and new laws that impact our practice. We have to be ever vigilant to keep up as under our licensure, we must know current laws and regulations.
With so much current discussion about the opioid crisis in our country, Eileen did share the Middletown Township BOE 'Standing Orders for Administration of Nasal Naloxone' - click here to view it.
Also shared was the World Health Organization's Best Practice Guide "How to respond to vocal vaccine deniers in public" - click here. This document does address religious beliefs. Be sure to read that chapter!
Eileen let us know to watch for legislative updates on the NJSSNA website - Home page and also remember that there is a link to the NJSSNA Practice Guide on the website as well.
By the time the evening ended, we left more equipped to share information with our school colleagues and administration.
Eileen's entire presentation can accessed by clicking here.
