Did you know…….
- 1962….JFK was President. Our first meeting was held in Bamberger’s community room (Eatontown, NJ) and dues were $2.00.
- The first dinner was held in May, 1968 at Old Orchard Inn. The cost to attend was $6.50.
- January 26, 1972 was proclaimed National School Nurse Day (It's held on the Wednesday on National Nurses Week that always starts May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's Birthday)
- In 1975, New Jersey school nurses were mandated to have a Bachelor’s Degree.
- In 1980, the Health History and Appraisal Card was introduced.
- In 1991, Assembly Bill #320 appropriated $10 million to provide certain nursing services to nonpublic school nurses.
- Monmouth County School Nurses Association dues were $5.00 in 1993.
- In 1998, NJ Administrative Code was implemented allowing school nurses to delegate Epipen administration to students with known anaphylaxis.
- In 2000, the annual dinner meeting was moved to Gibbs Hall. The cost to attend was $28.00.
- In 2003, we had 230 members. National School Nurses Day recognized on May 7th
- In 2008, school nurses learned about Safe Zone, a walking to school initiative.
- Our 50th anniversary celebration was held in 2012 at the Spring Lake Manor. Our organization increased its communication with a website
- In 2016, website was re-vamped and a Twitter account created (Currently 198 followers!)
- 2017 - Our organization celebrates its 55th anniversary at the Spring Lake Manor for the 9th consecutive year.
- In 2020, All schools ordered to move to remote education by order of the governor. School nursing visibility increased exponentially due to the need for all the health and safety measures needing to be implemented in schools. School nurses invited to be on district and building pandemic response teams.
