Welcome back Monmouth County School nurses to the 2023 to 2024 school year!
As professional school nurses we inspire those around us daily, whether by asking, “Did
you have breakfast today?”, or by administering a nebulizer treatment for a student with
acute asthma, to improve air exchange. We all share moments that inspire others and
set good examples. Most school nurses also participate in 504 Accommodations, and
Child Study Team referrals and meetings. We work with other disciplines with a
common goal of optimizing learning abilities and promoting a safe and enriching
educational environment for all students. As school nurses we implement strategies,
solutions, and interventions and work together in a multidisciplinary fashion. This
collaboration fosters inspiration to the school team members, while reflecting on how to
enhance a child's growth and educational success.
There are many ways school nurses can inspire others. We have to remind ourselves to
delve deeper into our professional role as the sole health practitioner in our work
setting. Let's take a few moments and reflect on what inspires us to learn and grow. We
are lifelong learners continually assessing ways to create a setting more conducive to
optimum health and wellness for our school community. As 2024 unfolds, I ask you,
“How are you inspired? How do you inspire others?”.
I would like to inspire you to never stop learning and growing in the nursing profession.
I encourage and urge those who have the excitement within themselves, the vision or
drive, to begin or continue their academic program. Feeling unsure or hesitant is
normal, given our busy lives, but just “do it” because you most certainly can. Look into
that certification exam and try your hardest.
Inspire those in your midst to continue to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities in the art
of nursing. Ours is truly an amazing profession, and our school nurse role is limitless in
its reach to inspire. Believe in the power of you. I have always reminded myself I am
golden . It helps me through tough times. So, inspire and always believe in the Power of
You. You Are Golden.
